A collection of letters, viceregal orders, depositions, petitions, reports and related documents concerning the flight of seven Mercedarian novices and one lay brother from their monastery to others in Mexico City, their capture and punishment, the resultant inspection of the Mercedarian monastery, and the proceedings against Jerónimo Pulgar, an attorney of the Real Audiencia, for his presentation of the fugitives' case. With letters from Knight Commander Francisco Dávila to Pulgar, Mexico City and Guadalajara, 1792-1800, submitted by the latter to attest his services to the Mercedarian Order.

Mercedarians is the popular name for the Order of Our Lady of Mercy, derived from the Spanish word merced (mercy). Members have been known also as the Knights of St. Eulalia and Nolascans.
